Risk-based Design Framework
A 'risk-based design framework' to encompass all aspects of Arctic ship operation
Vessel design needs to be connected to all key hazards of ship operation in the Arctic, including weather, ice conditions, knowledge on previous accidents and human system interface challenges.
SEDNA will deliver the Arctic Risk-based Design Framework for new ships, based on:
- Selection of the most suitable risk-based design framework for SEDNA
- An analysis of the most important parameters affecting the risk level of ships in ice
- An analysis of the possible risk control options
The new SEDNA risk-based design framework will allow new ships being designed for Arctic routes, and the existing vessels being adapted to work on these routes, to be measured against the actual risks that they will experience in operation.
Such holistic treatment of the ship design, operating regime, relevant environmental features and their identification will minimise impact over the entire life cycle of vessels operating in the Arctic.
